Announced by Health Minister Rona Ambrose in June 2014, the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation was created to provide recommendations to the Minister on how the federal government could support creative healthcare ideas and approaches with revenue neutral or cost-saving potential. Among the prospective areas for consideration are: processes and practices, policy approaches, ways of organizing care, technologies/tools, ways of using information, and ways of working collaboratively.
Chaired by Dr. David Naylor, the panel has conducted a number of face-to-face stakeholder conversations and offered an opportunity for online submissions. A group of member representatives prepared and submitted a briefing note on behalf of CCRA. The document highlighted four key areas: 1) big data analytics to support population health research, 2) chronic disease prevention, 3) clinical research infrastructure to support a clinical research intensive health system, and 4) palliative care.
