Drs. Philip Branton and Harvey Max Chochinov, two individuals who have made important contributions to cancer research in Canada, were appointed as Officers of the Order of Canada on July 1st of this year. Dr. Branton, in his role as the inaugural Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Cancer Research, was instrumental in galvanizing the CCRA membership, initiating the Canadian Cancer Research Survey, and ensuring that etiological and translational research were boosted with critical funding from the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. Dr. Chochinov, an internationally recognized researcher in the area of palliative and end-of-life care, has helped to raise the profile of this vital area of research and shape the ongoing dialogue on the emotional and psychological needs of dying patients and the critical role of dignity in palliative care. Our congratulations on this well-deserved recognition of contributions to cancer research in Canada!
